July 23 - Hot Creek Springs and South Tufa Nature Area
Next stop Hot Creek.
The Hot Creek area contains dozens of hot springs and it has fantastic views of the E Sierras in the background. The views from the parking lot are wonderful.
But there is a trail that takes you down to the stream. On my down I see a lizard. It has no tail!
Once a the stream, I was hoping to get near the one blue streaming pool but it's on the other side of the creek. (The view from above it much better.)
I do decide to take a walk to the left where I see a White Egret fishing in the river.
Oh yea, fishing is allowed in the stream but only catch-n-release.
View of the pools.
There are also Blackbirds sitting on the grasses the creek.
I also see a Flame Skipper.
Time to head back up that hill.
Back at my car, I still have time so I decide to go to the South Tufas; another place I've wanted to stop but haven't because it's been too hot. This year the temps have been awesome so I take the drive north. It's 82 degrees when I start the loop.
On the way I stop for a Western Pygmy Blue!!! My I scare him and he flies, and flies, and flies. :( I keep looking for others but find none.
I get down to the lake w/ a good number of folks to get some photos.
Hoards of Alkali flies line the shoreline.
And then continue around the loop. seems most don't do the loop as the crowd thins.Interesting stop and glad I had the time to go! (And thunderstorms are brewing)
Awesome day! I'm so motivated now! I feel so good that I'm considering doing Gaylord Lake tomorrow. (Plus my legs/hips feel great for the 1st time.)
Great day!
