July 22 - Mono Pass Trail (Yosemite)

With Gaylord Lakes not happening, I head a mile down the road to check out Mono Pass trail. I might still do part of this if the stream crossings are reasonable. (And that's a lot to ask since I did not bring my water proof shoes; considered it but chose not too.)

The trail starts in the forest and is a dirt path. It's flattish (somewhat downhill) at the start. There are small meadow opening with flowers (again for the butterflies).

My plan is only to go to the 1st two stream crossings which is about 1 mile.

I come into one meadow and I see a Greenish Blue. I spot for a photo!!

I'm also finding Mariposa Lilies.

Moving on, I'm on the look-out despite the fact it's still in the 40s.

Soon I'm hearing water - the stream is ahead.

The 1st stream gets the bottom of the shoes wet. The 2nd stream is about ankle deep. I think I could make it across picking the right rocks to hop and some poles for balance but that's not even in the cards for today.

While looking at the stream, I spot a Great Basin Frit!!

I turn around, cross the 1st stream and take a quick look thru the meadow for flyers - nothing.

I spot the Greenish Blue again.

And a Mariposa Copper.

Soon I'm back at the TH. That's a nice trail; too bad it's not in my future. But I was on it!

On to Bennettville!!
